Don’t misunderstand me; writing needs imagination, inspiration, and creativity. But those aren’t enough on their own. Trust me, I’m creative and inspired as all get out, but those traits aren’t what get words on the page. Unfortunately, this is where the hard work comes in.
Writing is like a job and you have to treat it that way. Show up every day, put in your time, and do the work. It’s that simple.
Do the work.
I like to make myself write for at least an hour every single day no matter what. Life and dinner and work be damned — I’m going to dedicate an hour to putting words on paper. And if they’re crappy words? Oh well. I’ll fix it later. But I sit down and I produce because it’s building a habit like that that can make a writer into an author .
